Meet an “AMAZING” With Astonishing Determination As Well As Smarts

Jerry Pollard, age 84, recently graduated from Northeastern Illinois University with a B.A. in History - Summa Cum Laude, no less.

It did take him a while, as he only took one class a semester, starting some time after retirement when he wondered what he was going to do with the rest of his life. Of course there was that climb he took over spring

break one year; 14,700 feet up Mount Everest…a little different from what most college students do over spring break.

Jerry has no intention of stopping his studies: “There’s always something you don’t know,” he
says, “there’s always something you can learn. When you stop learning, you’re dead.” How true!
