Meet an “Amazing” Author Going Strong At 103

Herman Wouk, at 100, published Sailor and Fiddler: Reflections of a 100 Year Old Author.

Herman Wouk, at 100, published what he stated would be his last book, Sailor and Fiddler: Reflections of a 100 Year Old Author, but considering the enormity of his work, one wonders if there aren’t more to come. Herman credits his experience with the U.S. Navy, which he joined shortly after Pearl Harbor, with the impetus for his writing, in particular, the acclaimed novel The Caine Mutiny, which went on to become a Broadway play, and later a feature film.

Herman’s involvement with the Navy included his position as an officer on two destroyer minesweepers. He participated in eight invasions and won numerous battle stars. He went on to a brilliant writing career, winning many awards there too, among them was The Library of Congress Lifetime Achievement Award for the Writing of Fiction in 2008.
