Meet an “Amazing” Dedicated to The Role of Women in WWII
Betty Reid Soskin, 96, helped in the development of "Rosie the Riveter" park.

Betty Reid Soskin, 96, the oldest Park Ranger serving in the USA, is assigned to the “Rosie the Riveter/World War II Home Front National Historical Park” in Richmond, Calif. She has a long history of dedication and service, first as prominent community activist, Civil Rights era song-writer, and later as a field rep for California State Assemblywomen Dion Aroner and Loni Hancock.
It was during her time as a field rep that she became involved in the development of a park to memorialize the role of women on the Home Front during World War II. In 2000, “Rosie the Riveter” park, became a site where the contributions women made to the war effort are honored.
Among Betty’s most recent awards and accolades: a proclamation honoring her by Richmond Mayor Gayle McLaughlin on behalf of the Richmond City Council, an honorary doctorate from the California College of the Arts, the WAVE award as one of three "Women of Achievement" by Girl Source of San Francisco, and the National WWII Museum Silver Service Medallion awarded at the American Spirit Awards gala, 2016.
