Meet an “Amazing” With a Noble and Generous Heart
Marvin Strombo, 93, he had removed a Japanese flag from a dead Japanese solider. He finally found its rightful owners.

Marvin Strombo, age 93, a courageous WWII vet who served in the battles of Saipan, Tarawa and Tinian in the Pacific, found a flag on the body of a dead Japanese soldier which he brought home with him as a “souvenir” – as did many US soldiers. However, he vowed to return it one day to the soldier’s family, and with the help of the nonprofit Obon Society, was finally able to locate the soldier’s family in a village in central Japan by analyzing family names.
The soldier’s younger brother, Tatsuya Yasue, 89, and his sister, Sayoko Furuta, 93, accepted the flag with
tears and gratitude. For them, the war had finally ended, and with it their beloved brother, Sadao Yasue, had come home.
Such was the gift Marvin so generously gave a former enemy by honoring his vow.
