Meet an “Amazing” With a Passion for Acting and Public Service

Glenda Jackson, at 82, garnered yet another Tony award, this time for her role in Edward Albee’s “Three Tall Women.” What is remarkable about her Tony, is that Glenda returned to acting at 80, having spent the previous 23 years as a Member of Parliament for two districts in the House of Commons in the UK.
Clearly, the intervening years did nothing to diminish her talent or passion for acting, which she began professionally in the 1950s, spending four years with the Royal Shakespeare Company before adding movie and television work to her long list of theatrical credits. And somewhere in her mix of roles, Glenda appeared in The Muppet Show as a pirate captain who hijacks the Muppet Theatre and turns it into her ship to look for buried treasure! Meanwhile, in 2019 she’s set to play King Lear on Broadway. Gotta love it.
