Meet an “Amazing” With a Passion For Nursing

Nursing is her life, and has been--at Edward Hospital--for 43 years.

If you ask Merrilee Andelbradt, at 80, what she’d rather do than work the night shift full-time as a critical care nurse at Edward Hospital's Intensive Care Unit in Naperville, Illinois, she won’t have an answer for you. Nursing is her life, and has been--at Edward Hospital--for 43 years.

In order to continue well past what others might consider retirement age, Merrilee completes her 100 hours of continuing education every three years, and has had to adapt and adjust over the years to an astonishing array of technological and procedural changes. She loves it, even though her work in intensive care is with the sickest patients. Not only that, but Merrilee often functions in leadership roles, such as Chairwoman of the Intensive Care Unit Practice Council, and mentoring younger nurses. Once her shift ends, Merrilee goes home to a quiet (!) life with her husband, proud as can be of her daughter, who works in cardiac telemetry, also at Edward Hospital.
