Meet an “Amazing” Still Swinging Her Way Through Her 9th Decade!

Jean Phelps Veloz, at 93, is still the reigning queen of the Hollywood-Style Lindy. She performs and teaches swing dancing all over the world. She enjoyed a stellar career throughout the 1940s and ensuing decades both as a Ballroom dancer and dance instructor to many stars needing to dance in their movies.

Once her husband passed away in 1981, Jean retired – briefly! She was pulled out of retirement to participate in a swing documentary in 1992, and then invited to perform and teach at a swing dance event in Munich, Germany. That brought her back into the Ballroom world’s limelight. Jean was inducted into the prestigious California Swing Dance Hall of Fame in 1996 and has never stopped performing and dancing since. She celebrated her 90th in Bangkok with a routine that stunned her audience: who knows where she’ll celebrate her 94th?!
