Leo Kellner, age 98, began baking pies and cakes after the death of his much-beloved wife of 72
years. No slouch to work – he began his own grain-dryer repair business at age 84, having been in the irrigation biz for many years before that. Leo found himself at loose ends when his wife past.
He’d retired from his repair business at 92, what to do? He remembered watching his Mom bake, as a child and thought “Heck, I could bake!” In the firstyear after his wife died, Leo baked 144 apple pies, all of which he
donated wherever he could. To this day, Leo bakes (he’s added cakes to his repertoire), and gives the goods gratis to his Church, the local hospice, any time there’s a funeral, and to anyone who stops by. It’s been said of Leo, that if you say hello to him, you’re likely to be handed a cake. According to Leo, his delicious cakes & pies do have one secret ingredient: love. It doesn’t get any better than that.
