Meet an “Amazing" Who Glides On The Ice With Ease

Tuula Olin, at 76, competes as a synchronized skater--a sport she took up after her husband passed away some 10 years ago and feeling the need to connect with people.

Tuula had always skated, but competitive skating is a whole different world. Balance is important, as is keeping generally fit, so Tuula swims every morning in summer, even if it’s cold out, and takes care with her diet.

Does she fall? Yes. Anyone who’s skated knows that falling is part of the drill, yet Tuula just picks herself up and skates on. She’s thought about maybe wearing a helmet when she gets older, but who knows when that will be? At the rate Tuula is going, her helmet-wearing could be a long way off.
