Meet an “Amazing” Who Goes The Distance, No Matter What
George only took up the sport seriously when he turned 80.

George Corones, 100, broke the world record for the 50-meter freestyle at the Commonwealth Games in Australia in his age category at 99 years young--just one month shy of his 100th birthday! George completed the swim in 56.12 seconds.
Although George enjoyed swimming as a young person, he gave it up at the beginning of WWII. He only took up the sport seriously when he turned 80.
Before his retirement, George had a career as a medical practitioner so he is very familiar with the human body and the strength and endurance swimming takes--as well as the need for a positive attitude! George just keeps aiming towards his goals, even though sometimes exhausting, fully believing he can attain them. What an example for us all!
