At 80, Dr. Carl Merril came out of retirement to found a biotech company to treat antibiotic-resistant bacterial infections.

Carl R. Merril, MD, age 82, came out of retirement at 80 to found Adaptive Phage Therapeutics, a biotech company developing therapies for the treatment of antibiotic-resistant bacterial infections. As we know, more and more bacterial infections no longer respond to antibiotics, so Dr. Merril’s work is much needed cutting-edge medicine. He’s always been in the forefront of science, with over 200 published papers, and an inventor with nearly a dozen patents, along with his position as Chief of Laboratory of Biochemical Genetics at the National Institute of Mental Health, among others.
Dr. Merril is definitely living proof that creativity, invention and intellectual acumen are not reserved for the young!
