Meet an “Amazing” Who Merits “AMAZING HALL OF FAME” Status
Jeanne Calment belongs in the Amazings Hall of Fame. When she died at 122, she was the oldest verifiable super-centenarian.

Occasionally, we step out of celebrating our current “Amazings” to honor an “Amazing” no longer with us, who by attitude and life-style, belongs in the “AMAZING HALL OF FAME.” Such is Jeanne Calment.
At the time of her passing at age 122, she was the oldest verifiable super-centenarian, according to well-established documentation. But that’s not what’s amazing about Jeanne. Here’s what is: she met Van
Gogh as a young teenager, went hunting, fencing, cycling and mountaineering with her husband, continued cycling until she was 100, lived on her own until she was 110, at which point she decided to move into a nursing home. She always kept up with what was going on in the world, and would go around in the evenings to her nursing-home neighbors, sharing with them the latest news she had heard on the radio.

Jeanne was in good shape until she broke her femur at age 114, after which she was confined to a wheelchair. She was mentally fit right up until the time of her passing. A rich and wonderful life!
