Meet an “Amazing” Who’s Not About to Give Up on the Fun of Playing Ball
Winchell Smith, age 97, plays softball with "Kids & Kubs."

Winchell Smith, age 97, is one of five 90+ers who play softball with “Kids & Kubs” week in, week out. You have to be 75 to even be eligible to play with “Kids & Kubs. Some players have waited 30 years for the opportunity.
Regardless of hip replacements, bypasses and other health challenges, the “Kids & Kubs” play robust doubleheaders three days a week. Begun during the Depression, when bow ties were apart of the uniform, “Kids & Kubs” has been going strong ever since.
Apart from the obvious health benefits of exercise, players talk about how “Kids & Kubs” gives them meaning and purpose, a reason to get up in the morning and get going. And most importantly, to have the fun of playing.
