Meet an “Amazing” Who Thrills on the Flying Trapeze

Betty, now 85, only took up the trapeze at 78

Betty Goedhart, at 84, just a few months shy of her 85 birthday, became the Guinness World Record’s oldest performing female flying trapeze artist. Now that’s remarkable in and of itself, but what’s even more compelling is the fact that Betty only took up the trapeze at 78.

Granted, she’d been active as an ice skater and polo player among other pursuits for many years, but the flying trapeze? Betty’s attitude is no doubt in large part responsible for her willingness to embark on what others might consider a dangerous sport, especially at her age. She believes that there’s always something to enjoy, no matter where we are in life--and have fun doing it.
