Mary Bochanis, age 92, is the longest-serving Red Cross volunteer in their history, having served
for the last 73 years. She started at Walter Reed Hospital (where, as a volunteer, she met her husband, when he was recuperating from a WWII injury). She's volunteered at the Children’s Inn at the National Institute of Health for the past 26 years.
In 2016, she received the Maryland Governor Larry Hogan’s Lifetime Service Award for her good work. Vivacious, always with a smile, she says that when giving just a little bit, one gets so much back in return. She has no plans to stop volunteering. And yes, she drives her own car and loves her soaps. Sitting on the sofa all day long is her idea of – boring!
