Meet an “Amazing” Who Treads Boldly Where Others Fear To Go

Judy Blume, 80, author and advocate for intellectual freedom.

Judy Blume, 80, author and advocate for intellectual freedom, is once again in our hearts and minds. With the current new wave of “Woman Power,” and the importance of the women now coming to the fore, it’s easy to forget those who pioneered and led the way--like Judy. With her coming-of-age novels, such as Are You There God? It's Me, Margaret, she helped adolescents come to grips with their fears, anxieties, insecurities and worries about subjects considered taboo or simply not addressed at the time: bullying, sexual exploration and development, peer pressure and more.

Active on a number of boards, including the National Coalition Against Censorship, Judy is still considered so influential that in October of 2017, Yale University acquired her archive, including some unpublished works.
