Meet an “Amazing” Whose Joy on a Bicycle is Never-Ending

As long as he has the mental and physical ability to do so, he'll keep doing it.

Benjamin Piovesan, at 83, cycles an average of 8,000 to 9,000 kilometers a year, even in less than desirable weather, although he prefers good riding conditions.

Growing up in France, Benjamin’s parents bought him a bike when he was young so he could come home to the family farm once a week from his work some 25 kilometers away. But then, life took over, and Benjamin didn’t ride for many years until his son, Patrick, got involved in serious cycling. Patrick bought his dad a road bike and Benjamin started cycling again.

As long as he has the mental and physical ability to do so, he’ll keep doing it, he says, because of the joy and pleasure cycling brings him. And his grandson, Florent, who is a filmmaker based in Sydney, Australia, was so taken by his grandfather’s continuing love of the sport, that he made a documentary about his grandfather’s cycling. What a wonderful tribute.
