Meet an “Amazing” Whose Patience Paid Off
Lou Schipper, 90, finally received his long awaited for high school diploma.

Lou Schipper, age 90, finally received his loooong awaited for high school diploma from St.
Xavier in Cincinnati. Lou left school at 17 to enlist in the Navy during WWII. He was a “Seabee” until his discharge in 1946. He then went about the business of living: he became an electrician, married and retired from Seagram’s Distillery in Lawrenceburg in 1984.
A diploma just didn’t seem all that important. Yet this is someone who as a teenager, would walk about a mile from his Aurora, Indiana home to catch a train to Cincinnati every day to attend St. Xavier High School.
Talk about dedication! The St. Xavier VP who awarded him his diploma was quite emotional about it, saying that Lou represented all the best things about the school. Lou himself was very appreciative, saying he’d
never thought he’d make it.
