1 Dead; Pursuit Ends In Fiery Multi-Vehicle Crash On PCH Malibu

PCH was closed in both directions between Kanan Dume Road and Via Escondido, CHP said.

MALIBU, CA – One person was killed in a multi-vehicle crash following a stolen vehicle pursuit Wednesday morning. The crash was reported Wednesday morning in the 27000 block of Pacific Coast Highway near Kanan Dume Road, Los Angeles County fire officials said. At least one of the vehicles caught fire after the collision, resulting in a small brush fire in the area near Latigo Canyon Road, according to KTLA.

A deputy spotted a reported stolen car at Zuma Beach around 8 a.m. and called for backup unites, Los Angeles County sheriff's Sgt. Bob Boese told Associated Press. A traffic stop was initiated by deputies and a female passenger exited the suspect vehicle, which then sped away. Deputies were then in pursuit of the stolen vehicle, Los Angeles County sheriff's officials said, which lead to a crash involving at least three cars.

Two people were transported from the scene by helicopter in unknown condition, ABC7 reported. One of the people taken to the hospital was the car theft suspect, according to the Associated Press. Pacific Coast Highway is closed in both directions between Kanan Dume Road and Via Escondido, and will likely remain closed until at least 3 p.m., California Highway Patrol said.

The identities of the dead pedestrian and the female passenger haven't been released, as of Wednesday afternoon.
