Nearly 600 in Malibu Still without Power, Full Restoration Expected at 2 p.m.

MALIBU, CA -- About 600 Southern California Edison customers in Malibu and more than 500 in Monterey Park were without power Monday, authorities said.

The Edison customers in Malibu lost power at 2:42 a.m., according to Edison, which said it was assessing the problem. The outage started with more than 900 customers affected.

The outage was caused by an equipment failure, according to SCE website. Power is expected to be fully restored by 2 p.m., the utility said.

Nearly 6,800 customers Monterey Park customers were without power when the outage was reported at 10:20 p.m. Sunday. It was in the area of Garvey Avenue from Alhambra to Orange avenues, according to police. As of 2:10 a.m. 510 customers remained without power.

The problem was identified, Edison said on its website, but it did not immediately report it to the public. It was still working to restore service and hoped to have it restored in Monterey Park by 3:30 p.m.
