New Seaside Preschool Opening In Malibu

MALIBU, CA – Seaside Preschool is opening at Juan Cabrillo Elementary School beginning on August 22. District and school officials have been preparing for the new preschool that will bring a collaborative educational program to the community, according to the press release.

An educational program for preschool students will include a ratio of students with disabilities who may require specially designed instruction in pre-academics, self-help and/or communication or social skills with minimum to moderate adult support. Staff will collaborate to create the best experience for all students.

Roya Carlson will be the new preschool teacher, and has more than 10 years of experience as a preschool teacher within SMMUSD. Carlson knows the community as her own children have attended schools in the district, and is looking forward to opening the new Seaside at Cabrillo, the press release said. Lakin Crane will be the special education Seaside teacher.

“We are excited to offer the Seaside Preschool program in conjunction with our Bridges TK in Malibu this year at Juan Cabrillo School. Believing that all kids can learn just in different ways and at different rates, the staff believes that there is a “place at the table” for each child. This vision for student success is why a collaborative educational program is the ideal start to our students’ education,” said Cabrillo Principal Dr. Pam Herkner in a statement. “We are looking forward to welcoming our youngest students and their families on Tuesday!”

The collaborative educational program is currently utilized at McKinley Elementary School and Lincoln Child Development Program in Santa Monica. Cabrillo is the third school to open a Seaside preschool, following Grant Elementary and Edison Elementary in Santa Monica last year.
