MALIBU, CA — Deputies have determined that there is no credible threat to safety and it's safe for faculty and students to attend school after an incident during a Malibu school field trip to the Getty Villa Wednesday, according to the school district.

Malibu Pathway Executive Director Isaac Burgess wrote an email to the Malibu middle and high school community Thursday morning following what he called "concerning behavior and threat to students and staff" during the field trip.

Deputies from the Malibu/Lost Hills Sheriff's Station are investigating the incident and have identified a "person of interest," Burgess wrote.

The person is a Malibu High School graduate. He and his parents have been interviewed and their home was "thoroughly searched," he continued.

"The investigation determined that the subject was concerned for the safety of students and perceived a threat, but had no plans to carry out any type of threat. The young man continues to be closely monitored as the investigation continues. We support the family’s interest in seeking necessary support and intervention for their young-adult family member," Burgess wrote.
