OBITUARY: DESIREE ZONDAG (RAZO)

I didn’t know her well at all…I saw her a lot in the water..and sometimes on land…and I always made an effort to talk with her….she had a tattoo on her foot…with (4) letters on it…no doubt an old boyfriend …I used to tease her about it…she was a totally free spirit type of girl….she seemed very uninterested in looking cool or tanned or conventional….she was unique and I was always aware of where she was when I was in the water with her…..I would surf alongside her at First Point or at County Line…..I saw her a lot…near the end of the day usually….almost dusk….

I saw today that a Desiree had died…a girl who was about the age that I had envisioned her to be…and I tried to not think that it was the girl that I knew (casually). She had died at County Line and I was really worried that it was her…on further review….it was…I feel that if I had been out there when she was…that I could have, at least, gone to her aid immediately….though I think she died instantly ..but don’t know for sure…

She was a really attractive girl…in a lot of ways…long dark brown hair….she wore tattered clothes sometimes..and some dorky spring wetsuits……she never had a tan….she had a big van if I remember…she was kind of a hippie...

I’ll miss her….it’s all so heartwrenchingly sad…sorry to all who knew her...

well, I couldn’t sleep tonight...I always sleep well...but tonight I woke up at 3:08 and added this line to this article....and this photo of Desiree with her red surfboard.
