Malibu Ocean Helicopter Jumper Identified: Coroner

The man died from multiple traumatic injuries, according to the coroner's office.

MALIBU, CA – A man who died after an apparent jump from a private helicopter in the waters off Malibu was identified Sunday by the coroner's office. Denison Shelley Diaz, 42, was killed after jumping from that helicopter around 1:20 p.m. Sept. 30, near the 2300 block of Pacific Coast Highway, according to the Los Angeles County Fire Department and the coroner's office.

Diaz died from multiple traumatic injuries, according to the coroner's office.

Rescue crews pulled Diaz out of the water and brought him to land where paramedics tried to revive him, but he was pronounced dead at the scene.

Diaz's death was investigated by the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department and the Federal Aviation Administration, Peters said. The FAA said the pilot of the Robinson R22 helicopter reported that Diaz jumped from the aircraft, according to news reports.
