Paleontologist Claims T. rex May Have Had Lips

A satirical look at current events!

Paleontologist Claims T. rex May Have Had Lips: In a controversial new thesis, noted paleontologist Dr Robert Reisz at the University of Toronto seeks to rewrite our image of Tyrannosaurus rex, suggesting that the fearsome beast’s teeth may have actually been covered by a pair of thick, scaly lips.

Well, I guess the scaly lips make sense when you consider that T. rex had no pockets, which would have made carrying around chap stick nearly impossible. And while some are calling this hypothesis controversial, if anyone ever needs proof of a dinosaur with big lips, just take a look at Mick Jagger. Could this have been a Mick Juggasaurus Rex?

Anyway, so let me get this straight. First they were claiming that T. rex is a distant relative of the chicken, then they said it had feathers, and now - they’re claiming it also had lips? Now I’m obviously no paleontologist, but to me, this isn’t the Tyrannosaurus rex I’ve come to know. Instead, this makes me envision kind of a Tyrannosaurus Rouge - with a long string of pearls, a fashionable hat, clutching a Louis Vuitton handbag while sporting big, thick eyelashes, bright red lipstick and literally tons and tons of mascara. The final clue to the puzzle was apparently the 65-million-year-old fossilized lipstick case found right next to the bones. Now the question is, did this luscious-lipped beast also display that classic pouty look when posing for selfies?

Another idea that crossed my mind is that if T. rex really did have lips, its entirely possible it could have played a musical instrument such as the saxophone, sort of like a Jurassic Parker, but a paleontologist quickly put that thought to rest by pointing out that a sax-playing T. rex would have been very unlikely because it had such tiny, little arms.

And while I’m sure there’s many of you out there thinking that whether Tyrannosaurus had lips or not is basically useless information, consider the fact that had our predecessors been armed with such information, they could have quickly identified and therefore escaped from any T-Rex that ever crossed their path. To sum things up, we now know that a Tyrannosaurus was basically a giant, wingless chicken, with sharp teeth and luscious, bright red lips.

Of course the bottom line here is, even if a Tyrannosaurus did have lips, you still wouldn’t want to kiss one. Their breath would have been horrible for heaven’s sakes. Now, as I see it, the only question that remains for science to answer is, could this beast’s extinction have been the result of…loose lips?
