Parking Lots Close At State Beaches, Parks In Malibu
Locals seeking fresh air and exercise are advised to stick to their local neighborhoods or walk to parks amid coronavirus woes

MALIBU, CA — California State Parks today announced it is closing parking lots for various state parks and beaches, including several in Malibu, aiming to reduce crowds and help prevent the spread of the novel coronavirus.
"Many state parks and beaches received record visitation over the weekend which made it impossible for the public to implement appropriate social-distancing practices," officials said. "As a result, the department is working closely with local county and public health officials to modify park operations by closing vehicular traffic at some park units to reduce the density of visitors."
Parking lots closed in the Malibu area include:

"For those wishing to take a break in the outdoors, public health officials are advising them to walk, run, hike and bike in their local neighborhoods and walk to parks," staff said adding that residents still are reminded to not "congregate in the outdoors."

"Everyone has the responsibility to 'Flatten the COVID-19 Curve at Parks' by maintaining a social distance of six feet or more when recreating in the outdoors, and staying home if they are sick," the agency said, referring to its new social-media campaign. "If visitors cannot maintain social distancing, they need to leave the park."
The park department's “Flatten the COVID-19 Curve at Parks” campaign is intended to remind residents of their role in flattening the COVID-19 (coronavirus) curve as they exercise and de-stress in outdoor open spaces.
If park and beach visitors do not comply with social-distancing mandates— and rangers will be checking, "additional measures may be taken to fully close parks including trails, bathrooms, and other amenities," officials said.
Santa Monica city officials on Sunday also closed their beach parking lots following a weekend of multitudes descending on the coastal area, despite the state's stay-at-home advisory due to COVID-19 concerns.
A full list of state park closures can be found online here. State park peace officers, along with law enforcement allies, will continue patrols and enforce regulations at all state parks, officials said.
