Pepperdine Flag Display Commemorates 9/11 Anniversary

Malibu's eye-catching "Waves of Flags" display honors the nearly 3,000 lives lost during the attacks on 9/11.

MALIBU, CA — 2,977 flags stand outside Pepperdine University, commemorating the 2,977 people who died during the 9/11 attacks, according to Pepperdine University.

The display, "Waves of Flags," has gone up every year since 2008 a few days before Sept. 11. This year, the flags will stay up at Alumni Park until Sept. 25. The display also includes a national flag for every country that lost a citizen during the attack.

Alumni Park will see special programming for the 20th anniversary of 9/11, including a display of all the victims' names, a film screening of United 93, a film about 9/11 and more. A full schedule of events can be found on Pepperdine's website.
