“It’s thrown everyone off. Pepperdine is a pretty small community, a pretty sheltered community living in the quiet community of Malibu ...” Madeleine Carr, The Pepperdine Graphic newspaper editor said in an on-air interview with CNN. “It’s one of those events where its hard to rationalize it happening to you ... it’s crazy to think the place you’re going to have fun, the place you’re going to de-stress after your week is now the place of ... tragic memories.”
According to Pepperdine officials, the other students who were at the bar have been located. Two of them were treated and released from a hospital.
Classes were continuing at Pepperdine, but university officials said students "who need to adjust their class schedules today as a result of yesterday's event are encouraged to do so." Counselors were available on the campus, school officials said.
A prayer service will be held at noon Thursday in Smothers Theatre on the Malibu Pepperdine campus, the university website said.
"This is a time for our campus community to come together and support one another," the Pepperdine website said. "For our Pepperdine family around the world, please take a moment and uplift all those impacted by this tragedy in prayer."
