Prof. To Talk Wildfire Ecology At Malibu Library Speaker Series

Dr. Stephen Davis is a plant ecologist at Pepperdine University who has studied the impact of wildfires in and around Malibu.

MALIBU, CA – Professor of Biology Dr. Stephen Davis will discuss wildfire ecology at a special Earth Month Malibu Library Speaker Series hosted by the City of Malibu and the LA County Public Library in partnership with Pepperdine University’s Climate Calling Conference.

Davis is a plant ecologist at Pepperdine University who has studied the impact of wildfires in and around Malibu, the press release said. He's been the lead investigator on more than 15 government grants, primarily from the National Science Foundation.

"Much of his personal research centers on plant physiological ecology, including adaptations of chaparral vegetation to wildfire, drought, and freezing," the City of Malibu said. "He has published in such journals as Nature, Ecology, and The American Journal of Botany."

Davis is the recipient of numerous teaching awards, and his distinct approach has been to facilitate student scholarships through completing research projects, writing honors theses, student presentations of their research findings at regional and national scientific conferences, and student publication of their work in refereed, scientific journals, the press release said.
