Red Flag Fire Conditions For Malibu Oct. 27-28

Gusty Santa Ana winds and very low humidities have raised the fire risk.

From the City of Malibu: The National Weather Service (NWS) issued a red flag warning in effect from 10 p.m. Oct. 27 through 6 p.m. Oct. 28 for the Los Angeles and Ventura County coast and the Santa Monica Mountains due to gusty Santa Ana winds and very low humidities.

A Santa Ana wind event is likely to develop late Sunday and Monday. The peak winds are expected to be Sunday night into Monday morning when gusts between 40 and 50 mph will be common across wind prone areas of Los Angeles and Ventura counties, except gusts between 50 and 60 mph across the Los Angeles county mountains, including the Santa Monica Mountains.

Humidities are expected to lower rapidly Sunday night, with minimum values between 5 and 10 percent in many areas on Monday.

If fire ignition occurs, conditions will be favorable for extreme fire behavior and very rapid fire spread which would threaten life and property.

A Red Flag Warning means that critical fire weather conditions are either occurring now or will shortly. A combination of strong winds, low relative humidity, and warm temperatures can contribute to extreme fire behavior. Use extreme caution with potential fire ignition sources.
