World Oceans Day is an annual international collaborative to honor the world’s oceans. It has been celebrated every June 8th since 1992 and officially recognized by the United Nations in 2008. Local communities worldwide conduct a variety of events to support World Oceans Day including beach cleanups, educational programs, art contests, film festivals, and sustainable seafood events.
The theme for World Oceans Day 2015 is “Healthy Oceans, Healthy Planet.” This year’s event occurs two weeks after one of the worst oil spills in Santa Barbara since 1992 and one week after notable oil beach clean ups in El Segundo and Redondo Beach. The need for marine and ocean education and advocacy has never been greater.

Sea Save Foundation spearheads international and local ocean advocacy efforts, and is delighted to receive this generous support from the Marmalade Café family of restaurants in our own community.
“World Oceans Day brings awareness and understanding to the plight of the world’s oceans,” said Georgienne Bradley, Sea Save Foundation Director. “Every dollar we receive from the Marmalade Café ‘Dine and Donate’ event will go directly to cutting-edge ocean conservation efforts.”
