Sharks Baseball Beats Carpinteria, Heads to CIF Playoffs

Senior Harry McAlevey pitches a complete game four-hit shutout sending the Sharks to playoffs in a 1-0 victory.

The Malibu High Sharks needed one win to advance to the 2012 CIF Playoffs and it came on the final day of the season.  

The Sharks finished the regular season 15-9 and 6-6 in conference play earning them third place honors in the tough Tri-Valley League Conference, which carries with it an automatic advancement into the CIF Playoffs.
Thurday's game was "Senior Day" for the “” and each one of them started and all contributed in major ways to the big victory.  

Matt Gruskin called a shutout as the catcher, made multiple big catches and plays behind the plate. Gruskin also added a hit in the seventh inning on a hit and run play setting up the win, Mark Stevenson had a hit and a huge walk in the winning rally in the seventh also setting up the win.

Evan Anthony tracked everything down in centerfield, Hunter Johnson went 3-4 and knocked in the game winning run in the seventh by hustling to first beating the thro. Jordan Simon beat out an infield ground ball and singled to start the winning rally and eventually scored the games only and winning run in the seventh.  

But the Senior of the Day was, Harry McAlevey who moved to 7-2 on the year as he pitched a seven-inning complete game with a four-hit, four-strikeout shut-out performance.

The Sharks defense played error free baseball and the regular season ended just as it began, with an exciting Sharks, bottom of the seventh walk off victory.  
The Sharks will find out who their playoff opponent will be on Sunday and the first round game will be Tuesday. The Sharks were 7-18 and 3-9 a year ago and have made quite an improvement.
