Sharks Volleyball Falls to League Leader

The Malibu High School girls varsity volleyball teams loses at home to Grace Brethren.

 girls varsity volleyball league is tough—real tough. The top two teams are Malibu and Grace Brethren. Earlier this month,  in a well-played road game for Malibu. The Lancers came to Malibu on Tuesday, and the Sharks had plans to return the favor. But it was not to be as Malibu fell in a competitive match that included an exciting final game, 3-0 (25-16, 25-18, 25-23).

Game one was an offensive display of tremendous talent by both teams. The squads traded the lead several times, but it concluded with a Sharks loss. In the second game, Malibu took an early lead and then the lead changed several times. Grace Brethren won the game by a small margin.

The Sharks showed heart in the third game as they played well and again had the lead several times. It was a competitive game, with both sides getting impressive kills and defensive saves. Intense rallies ensued and Malibu lost the close contest

After the game, Chris Neier, Malibu's athletic director and a great supporter of the young athletes, said, "That was one of the greatest matches of my career as director. Malibu will miss the nine incredibly talented seniors after this season. Talent like Coral Silverberg and Paige Stoker, who are multi-sport players and phenomenal athletes, are a real blessing to have at the school and leading a team."

The Sharks followed the Grace Brethren loss with a 3-1 (22-25, 25-18, 25-22, 25-16) win over Carpinteria on Thursday. Malibu plays again on Tuesday in the regular season home finale against Santa Clara. The match will begin at 6 p.m.
