Strong Winds Prompt Fire Weather Watch In Malibu

Strong Santa Ana winds and low humidity are expected in Southern California.

MALIBU, CA – The Los Angeles County Fire Department issued a Fire Weather Watch in the Malibu area from 10 a.m. Tuesday through 8 a.m. Wednesday due to strong Santa Ana winds and low humidity expected for Southern California.

Moderate to strong Northeast winds and low relative humidity are expected in the mountains of Los Angeles County, including the city of Malibu, the city alert said.

"Santa Ana winds are expected to develop across the mountains and some valleys during the day Monday, then strengthen and become more widespread across Los Angeles and Ventura Counties Monday night into New Year's Day with damaging wind gusts of 50 to 65 mph possible," the alert said. "Substantial fire risk still exists in all areas east of Las Virgenes and Malibu Canyon Road extending to the 405 Freeway."
