Wildfire Races Uphill At Malibu Topanga Area Fire

BREAKING: Los Angeles County fire at Pacific Coast Highway and Topanga Canyon has swallowed four acres, fire crews say.

MALIBU, CA — Firefighters are actively battling a blaze in Malibu off of Topanga Canyon and Pacific Cost Highway, near Las Virgenes Road.

The fire is currently racing uphill where there are homes according to reports from the scene, however fire crews at the scene say that no homes are immediately threatened. Approximately four acres have burned since the fire was originally reported at 3:15 p.m.

The fast-moving brush fire centered near Las Virgenes Road and the Mullholand Highway, is just south and inland from Topanga Beach, behind The Getty Villa.

A two acre medium brush fire with moderate rate of spread was running uphill quickly grew to over five acres as of 3:15 p.m. Two engines are on scene, and heavy smoke is visible for approximately one mile.

Flames could be seen cresting the hill from the intersection of Surfwood Road and Shoreheights Drive, according to one Twitter post.

A separate wildfire near Malibu was also burning Thursday, along Mullholand Highway and Malibu Canyon Road near Calabasas, according to firefighters on scene.

Named the #StokesFire, there are no structures threatened in that blaze according to firefighters on scene.
