SURFING PIG VS BARBEQUE

This past weekend, I was disturbed by an invitation I received to come to a birthday party for a co worker. OK we're a little old for birthday parties,  but he was having a celebration for his thirty something.  He invited me to come and then he said that he had ordered the slaughter of a pig.  This was a few days in advance. He started making jokes about it, about where the pig was now, and the other co worker told him to stop, because they both know I'm a  stray rescuer.  I felt sick thinking about it. I mean, we all buy meat at the grocery store, unless we're vegetarians. and that is the argument but on the other hand, why did he  have to add another death to the already existing slaughter, for no reason. He has money, he could buy anything he wanted for his party. Why bring the body of a slaughter and exhibit it?  The day of the party he was passing around cell phone picture of the body, I didn't look but once I went to another party and they had the whole body there at the buffet.  And when I said something he just brought up about the burrito down the street is the same thing. It's really disturbing and makes one really consider  vegetarianism for the philosophical reason of it.  
Today I saw the video of the surfing pig in Hawaii.  It's just like the dogs. Just because they don't speak our language does not mean they're dumb, they are smart and they are here on the earth just like us, trying to enjoy their lives.   And the lucky ones are able to show us but there are so many that don't get to show us how they really are.
