The singer died at UCLA Medical Center on Oct. 2 after he was transferred there from his Malibu home.

MALIBU, CA – The official cause of singer Tom Petty's death, which came hours after he suffered what his manager said was cardiac arrest, has been listed as "deferred," authorities said Tuesday. Petty died at UCLA Medical Center at about 8:40 p.m. on Oct. 2 after he was brought to the center by paramedics from his Malibu home. He was 66 at the time of his death.

An autopsy has been conducted, and the cause of death was listed as "deferred," said coroner's Assistant Chief Ed Winter, who declined to elaborate.

According to Tony Dimitriades, longtime manager for Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers, Petty suffered cardiac arrest early on the morning of Oct. 2 and was taken to the hospital, where he died peacefully, surrounded by family, his bandmates and friends.
