Tommy Hilfiger Wins Suit Against Malibu Rental Company

MALIBU, CA – Fashion designer Tommy Hilfiger received a default judgment of nearly $60,000 against a Malibu home rental company. Los Angeles Superior Court Judge Richard Fruin signed court papers on Oct. 4 granting Hilfiger judgment against Wyoming-based Malibu Venues Inc. for $58,588, which includes interest and costs. Malibu Venues defaulted by not responding to the lawsuit.

The breach-of-contract suit filed April 18 stated that Malibu Venues agreed in July 2016 to rent a property in Malibu to Hilfiger for five nights for $53,000. But less than a month later, the company told Hilfiger that the cost would be higher than previously agreed upon, the suit stated.

"I refused to agree to the sudden rental fee increase and demanded a full refund," Hilfiger stated in a declaration.

Malibu Venues agreed that same day to refund the money with a wire transfer, but Hilfiger never received his money back, he stated.

The 66-year-old New York resident founded the Tommy Hilfiger Corp. in 1985.
