Topanga Canyon Blvd. Becomes a Dangerous Pool
A Sherman Oaks resident's video shows the rough situation Sunday on Topanga Canyon Boulevard.
The heavy rain Sunday caused flooding on Topanga Canyon Boulevard. When Sherman Oaks resident Susanna Olid took the route on her way home from Malibu to avoid the 405 Freeway, she encountered an intense scene. Olid had movement problems with her own vehicle, and spotted a pick-up truck with two passengers stuck on the road.
Olid welcomed a 16-year-old boy from the truck into her Ford Mustang. His father, who had also been in the truck, helped clear the debris around Olid's car so she could get the vehicle moving.
“He was my hero,” Olid wrote in an e-mail to Malibu Patch. “As I started to float away with his son in my car, I told him to jump in. He had to jump through my window, and we sailed down the street. It was pretty scary, and I’m glad we all stayed unharmed.”

No injuries were reported due to the Topanga Canyon Boulevard flood. Portions of the road were closed, including access from Pacific Coast Highway. It was fully reopened at 9 a.m. Monday.
In this video, you can hear the boy talking to Olid about his father, who is a plumber. Then you hear Olid shout, "You need to get out." She was speaking to what she thought was a person in a floating truck, but she later discovered the truck had been abandoned.
