TWO LEVELS OF OUTRAGE!

Legal Documents were released today that showed that in a deposition taken in 2005, Bill Cosby admitted to giving Quaaludes to young women in order to have sex with them. He was being privately deposed due to a civil suit brought forward by a young woman who claimed that she was given Quaaludes after which she felt limp and barely conscious and Bill Cosby had sex with her.

The facts reflected in this deposition shouldn’t surprise anyone but now we have legal corroboration....Bill Cosby’s own words, that he was praying and hoping would stay sealed by the courts, that implicate the modality by which Cosby has secured his reputation as a serial rapist (36 reported cases in all)....to stay nothing of the lesser travesty of forcing incapacitating drugs on unsuspecting women..for that purpose.

Meanwhile, before a partial record of this deposition was released by the courts, Cosby’s attorneys were pleading with the court to not release this information because it would be ”extremely embarrassing to Mr. Cosby”. This is almost unbelievable.....The fact that Cosby and his attorneys want us to be sensitive to his potential embarrassment, but disinterested and apathetic to the emphatic and collective claims of over (3) dozen women that they were raped and drugged, over a 40 year period leaves us all speechless....Cosby has been moralizing and defaming the characters of the accused during the last few months. There are no limits to this man’s cruelty.

Now, I can accept that there are people, sociopaths, like Cosby out there who are drunk with their own sense of importance and entitlement but, the part that I cannot seem to understand is the fact that women’s groups have not staged a full out assault on Cosby’s deeds in order to defend and support the victims, and to castigate Cosby for his despicable criminal behavior. I have yet to hear of a mass protest by women....on Cosby’s front lawn....or at a place where Cosby is about to give a comedy show....Nowhere have I heard of a protest....AGAIN, any other demographic group that was assaulted publicly and not given any legal recourse by the courts....would be supported and represented...I have little doubt! Gays and Lesbians, African Americans, The Anti Defamation League, NAACP, National Right to Life, PETA, etc.. Heck, when NFL star Michael Vick was indicted for staging dog fights, PETA groups were protesting nonstop DEMANDING justice for dogs....they weren’t sitting on their hands...they were taking it to the streets...AND, it can be concluded that these actions drove the media, and drove policy to a great degree. They sensitize our citizens to a travesty of justice....they ignite outrage. They bring about change...and Justice. Why is this not happening with Cosby? It is an outrage....

The Second Outrage, equally as disturbing, and one that should be drawing colossal protest, is the fact that Cosby can commit these despicable crimes over a 40 year period (if not more) and to dozens of women, maybe hundreds, and Bill Cosby will face NO legal action of any kind by the courts as punishment for these repetitive crimes. There are kids spending decades in jail over victimless drug related crimes....how can this be squared against the fact the Cosby can do these deeds (over and over again) and be a free man....a totally free man....he can thumb his nose at the courts, and at the accusers....he can humiliate an ignorant and naive wife who would turn her back on women everywhere.

Bill Cosby was only as bold and brazen as he was about carrying out these rapes (over and over and over) during the course of 4 decades because he thought he would get away with it...he gambled that he could rape dozens and dozens of women...and there would be no punishment, or the loss of loyalty of his wife, or ANYTHING that would prevent him from successfully doing whatever he wanted to do to desecrate women....AND, the bastard was right! He judged the social and legal climate regarding rape and celebrities...and he took his chances...he ”doubled down” over and over again...He was very correct and astute to assume that women would NOT come forward...and that if they did, they would NOT be believed, and they would NOT get an indictment, and they would NOT compromise his ability to sell out arenas....

Heaven Help Us.....We are ALL guilty....the victimized women who didn’t come forward, the media and the general public for treating rape with one eye closed, men everywhere who don’t speak up for sexual violence, a society that has historically treated rape as a pseudo crime, our legal system which has failed women for centuries....creating a threshold of innocence of the accused that can rarely be eclipsed, and a failed statue of limitations on sex crimes....there is NO statute of limitations on homicide. And, of course there is plenty of guilt that falls on Cosby, and that goes without mention. Somehow Cosby’s guilt is the least offensive to me....and the least damaging to society...

When are we going to get this right?
