MALIBU, CA – Two sheriff's squad cars crashed into each other on Pacific Coast Highway near Point Dume on Sunday, and one deputy was taken to a hospital. A sergeant said the deputies collided into each other while at least one of them was making a U-turn – they were responding to an animal abuse call.

The crash occurred at about 7:10 a.m. on Pacific Coast Highway west of Heathercliff Road, said a different sergeant, Brad Johnson, at the sheriff's Malibu-Lost Hills station. Traffic was directed around the wreck for three hours, and then investigators cleared the crash.

The crash was on a downhill section of PCH, about 200 feet west of the signal at Heathercliff.
