109 MPH On PCH: Unlicensed 18-Year-Old Arrested On Reckless Driving Charge In Malibu
The reckless driving arrest came just days after four women were killed in a crash on Pacific Coast Highway in Malibu.

MALIBU, CA — An unlicensed 18-year-old woman was arrested over the weekend after a sheriff's deputy pulled her over for driving 109 mph on Pacific Coast Highway, according to deputies.
Heading westbound, the driver passed a deputy who was monitoring traffic in the dense Civic Center area just before 1:30 a.m. Saturday. Using a Lidar gun, the deputy determined she was traveling at 109 mph — more than double the posted 45 mph speed limit, according to the Malibu/Lost Hills Station.
It took the deputy six miles to catch up to the woman, who was pulled over at Zumirez Drive, deputies said.

The woman, who does not have a drivers license, was arrested on a charge of reckless driving. Her car was impounded for 30 days, deputies said.
"The deputy asked her 'Do you realize how fast you were going?' She freely admitted it. And he asked her 'Do you realize the four girls that were killed on PCH last week?' She even knew about it," said one deputy, who discussed the incident at Monday's City Council meeting.

That meeting was dominated by discussion of PCH safety following the deaths of Niamh Rolston, Peyton Stewart, Asha Weir, and Deslyn Williams, who were killed in a single-vehicle crash on Oct. 17.
Among the plans discussed at Monday's meeting were exploring an emergency declaration that could allow the city to implement lower speed limits on PCH, increasing patrols by the Sheriff's Department and/or California Highway Patrol and working with state legislators to bring speed cameras to Malibu.
