What Makes a Smile Extraordinary? BLOG

Some people don't think their smile problems are fixable or maybe they think that they can only improve the color of their teeth...not true

What makes a smile attractive? There are a ton of different kinds of teeth that stir me up, that make sparks fly; there is not just one type, but there are a few “smile” principles that are almost always present in any “head turning” smile.

Here is a smile that I saw recently that really hit the jackpot for me….and I want to share why…..

There are a number of different aspects to this smile that I want to comment on. Here are my 5 principles to a remarkable smile:

1. The brightness of the smile! The teeth are not overly white, but they really “pop” out against her tanned skin in the photo…And, notice how the “whites” of Julia’s eyes are the same color essentially as her teeth. That is the magic formula. When the teeth are the same value (brightness) as the eyes it makes for fireworks…

2. The fullness of the smile is fantastic!…Miss Roberts has teeth from one corner of her lips to the other…Her lips act as a frame for her teeth (the picture). There are no dark shadows at the corner of her smile which would mean that her smile was relatively narrow.

3. The length of her teeth are perfect!…you see the entire length of the tooth (no gum tissue) and the leading edge of her upper front teeth just “kiss” her lower lip. In so many smiles patients have gum tissue that is covering up a part of the tooth that should be showing. This is fully and easily fixable in most cases. Or, their teeth are positioned too high up in their face and you can’t see them unless they smile big or they laugh. I think it is important to show teeth in repose. This looks youthful. The aforementioned problem is easily and quickly remedied (a couple of months), as well, with orthodontics OR other modalities…

4. The position of the front teeth are perfect in terms of the “front to back” relationship. Julia’s teeth are in the “front row”…where they can be the most flattering…some people have pretty teeth but they are in the 20th row and in the shadows..you can’t really appreciate them….If the teeth are not in the proper position front to back, then you don’t usually have reason #5.

5. Her front teeth are positioned front/back so that they support the lips properly. Many people opt to have lip injections for a “thin” lip when in fact the problem is that the upper front teeth are not positioned far enough forward to support and “unfold” the lip. The lip is going to lay on the upper front teeth…if the teeth are set too far back…the lip will be as well and the lip will roll under itself..making for a thin lip….

Well, those are my (5). It goes way beyond ”color”!

Some people don’t think these problems are fixable or maybe they think that they can only improve the color of their teeth...not true at all.....all of these problems are totally fixable, non surgically...and relatively easily.

And, as if JR doesn’t have enough going for herself already…this looks like it could be a high school yearbook photo…almost…
