WHEN SMOKE GETS IN OUR EYES....THE IMPORTANCE OF OBJECTIVITY, AND INTEGRITY

The Independent Wells Report is out...and it doesn’t look good for Tom.

It should come as no surprise that non Patriot fans believe that QB Tom Brady knowingly orchestrated the deflation of footballs to gain an advantage, AND, that he deliberately denied knowing about it....he lied.

It should come as no surprise that Patriots fans think Brady is innocent of all charges...that the Super Bowl hero can “Do no wrong”. He is a truth teller.

The bigger revelation is that people view Truth from the prism of what is most beneficial to them....if the Truth is damaging to their belief system or to their identity, then it is easy for most to just see things through a subjective and biased lens, and believe in lies...for most blacks to believe that O.J. was framed, for most white men to believe that the white police officers are innocent, for Patriots fans to believe that Brady is being framed.

This is a real reflection of the worst parts of our natures. The selection of “Truth” based on things other than what is truthful......when you don‘t want to believe what everyone knows to be the Truth, you just refuse to believe it....the “smoke“ of bias gets in our eyes. It clouds our view of the Truth....but the Truth is always just that...the Truth.

If we don’t demand integrity and honesty from our athletes and leaders in general, then we will get what we deserve...deception, and cheating, and people of low integrity. It doesn’t have to be that way. If you are caught cheating in the game of golf then you might risk being suspended for a whole season. Also, your peers are going to be very intolerant of cheaters and they will likely isolate you. That is the way it works in the culture of golf....golfers are EXPECTED to play fairly..at all times. They even call penalties on themselves when no one is looking. The culture has been upheld for decades. Not so in boxing, and pro football..you can get away with just about anything....and still sign autographs and pose for the media. The standards are breathtakingly low, both on and off the field.

Brady’s dad thinks son Tom is being “framed”. The lawyer who Tom is paying to represent him is lashing out at the “unfairness of it all”....anyone think that guy has a bias? Tom’s high school buddies think he is innocent.  Connect these dots.

“Just the Facts, Ma’am”. Those were the glorified words of Sgt. Joe Friday of “Dragnet” fame. Why can’t people see Truth beyond their own self interests? Are we that desperate for false “Gods” and false “glory”.

TRUTH MATTERS...IT ALWAYS MATTERS...so does integrity....INTEGRITY IS EVERYTHING...if you don’t have it, then you have almost nothing!!!!!

and on, and on, and on, and on, and on, and on......

on the other hand, Yankee’s pitcher, Andy Pettite cheated by taking PED’s but he “came clean” when questioned about it.....he admitted that he had cheated and apologized. Brady could have done the same....but integrity doesn’t seem to matter to this guy. We haven‘t learned from the disaster that was Lance Armstrong....At least for now, being good looking and a good athlete is not a substitute for character and integrity...it (hopefully) never will be.
