• Mammoth's First Snow of the Season Surprises Locals (yardbarker.com) — Residents of Mammoth Lakes woke up Monday to the season's first light snowfall at higher elevations, just enough to thrill local skiers and riders. Mammoth Mountain is still targeting a November 13 opening but hints that a strong El Niño and new remote avalanche control systems could allow earlier terrain openings and safer operations this winter.
• Special Presentation: 'Forest Management for Wildfire Resilience and Climate Adaptation' Eastern Sierra Now (easternsierranow.com) — A regional forest expert will give a free October 7 talk in Bishop explaining how large-scale thinning projects aim to make the forests around Mammoth Lakes more resilient to wildfire and climate change. Residents can hear updates on the Eastern Sierra Climate and Communities Resilience Project, learn what's already been done, and better understand how this work could protect local communities and landscapes.
