3 Burglary Suspects Arrested In Manhattan Beach

MANHATTAN BEACH, CA – Three burglary suspects from Los Angeles were arrested in Manhattan Beach, police announced Thursday. They were Desarae Spotville, 31, Mercedes James, 27, and Montrell Lucas, 28.

At approximately 4:45 a.m. Thursday, MBPD received a call of a residential burglary that just occurred, police said. A resident in the 1800 block of Oak Avenue was notified by their Ring video security system that a stranger had entered their garage. The resident called 911 and MBPD quickly responded, police said.

An MBPD sergeant saw a vehicle leaving the residential area while responding the call, so the sergeant initiated a traffic stop on the car for vehicle code violations, while other officers responded to the home, police said. After interviewing the victim and reviewing the Ring video security system, officers noted the suspect description matched one of the subjects who was stopped for the traffic violation, the press release said.

After further investigation into the people being detained at the traffic stop, officers saw stolen property from the victim on Oak Avenue located inside the vehicle. Two females and one male were arrested for residential burglary. Police said the suspects removed items, including the garage door opener, from the victim’s unlocked vehicle, before they used the garage door opener to enter the victim's garage, the press release said.

MBPD wants to remind everyone to lock their vehicles and homes to help prevent crimes like this from occurring. Police also encourage those who have video surveillance systems to register them with MBPD here.
