Accused Credit Card Thief Spent Over $1,000 On Elderly Resident's Card

A man was arrested this week after Manhattan Beach Police said he spent over $1,000 on an elderly residents card.

MANHATTAN BEACH, CA — A man was arrested this week after Manhattan Beach Police said he spent over $1,000 on an elderly residents card.

According to the Manhattan Beach Police Department, officers located the man at the Manhattan Village Shopping Center and arrested him on suspicion of credit card fraud.

Officers said that about an hour prior to his arrest, the suspect had allegedly stolen a credit card from an elderly resident's wallet outside of a local grocery store.

"Suspects target elderly victims, regularly outside of grocery stores and shopping centers. Please make sure you and your family members are aware of your surroundings, especially when approached by a stranger asking for assistance," MBPD said.

MBPD said they have noticed a rise in distraction thefts in Manhattan Beach recently and advised residents to be mindful of their purses and wallets and make sure vehicles are secure
