Breaking: American Airlines Computer Glitch Delays Flights Countrywide

A ground stop had been ordered at three airports, causing delays around the country.

UPDATED AT 11:10 A.M:

A computer issue prompted a halt to American Airlines flights to and from Dallas, Chicago and Miami today, prompting delays at airports across the country and recommendations for Southland travelers to contact the airline about the status of their flights.

LAX officials say the computer problem affecting American Airlines to and from Miami, Dallas/Fort Worth and Chicago have been resolved, but there’s no immediate confirmation from the airline. Passengers are still being advised to check the status of their flights.

American Airlines officials said the computer problem began at about 9 a.m. Pacific time.

According to the FAA, the airline requested a ground stop for planes heading for Dallas-Fort Worth and Miami international airports, along with Chicago O’Hare International Airport.

According to the LAX website, two American flights -- one bound for DFW and one for Miami -- were both scheduled to depart Los Angeles at 11 a.m. but were listed as delayed. Other flights to Seattle, Shanghai and Indianapolis were still running on time.
