MANHATTAN BEACH, CA — A Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department bomb squad was headed to Manhattan Beach Thursday afternoon after a potential explosive device was reported near a residence, police confirmed to Patch.
Manhattan Beach Police Department Officer Cole Barba told Patch that the LASD bomb squad was on its way to the scene.
Police were investigating near the 1100 block of Chestnut Avenue, according to an emergency alert issued shortly before 2 p.m. Thursday.
Westbound Manhattan Beach Boulevard at Meadows Avenue was closed during the investigation, and residents were being asked to avoid the area, according to the alert.
It was not immediately clear what prompted the investigation, what the potential explosive device was or whether any nearby homes had been evacuated.
No injuries had been reported as of Thursday afternoon.
