• Manhattan Beach Therapist Gets Nearly 17 Years For Secretly Filming Girls (patch.com) — Manhattan Beach residents are learning that a local family therapist has been sentenced to nearly 17 years in federal prison for secretly recording young girls in a women's restroom at his workplace in the city. Prosecutors say he hid a camera in a stall used by child patients and also admitted to receiving child sexual abuse material over several years, leading to lengthy supervision and heavy financial penalties after his release.
• Manhattan Beach SWAT Helps Bust High-End Vehicle Theft Crew (patch.com) — Manhattan Beach readers may be interested to know their local SWAT officers joined a large multi-agency crackdown on a suspected high-end vehicle theft crew operating across Los Angeles and Orange counties. The coordinated raids at 11 locations led to six arrests, recovery of nine stolen vehicles and more than a dozen firearms, with Manhattan Beach police playing a visible role alongside neighboring agencies.
• Braun's Law Signed: State legislation passed to crack down on DUI offenders (pasadenaweekly.com) — A new California DUI law named for 18-year-old Braun Levi, who was killed while walking in Manhattan Beach, aims to toughen consequences for repeat impaired drivers. The measure, along with several related bills, increases penalties, license revocations, and ignition interlock requirements in hopes of preventing tragedies like the one that shook Manhattan Beach residents.
